The World Series

The October Classic Breaks out today. The 2006 version is not East Coast-West Coast contest. Even though Detroit and St. Louis are 'fly-over sites, but hardly nondescript. Both are authentic franchises from the original 16 teams of MLB's first 50 years. Opposing managers Jim Leyland and Tony La Russa are close friends who have enjoyed close working relationships in the past. Both managers have won a world Series before. This year the winning manager will become the second in history to have won a World Series for both leagues. Watching this series will be a treat to all who enjoy and esteem close competition between close friends. Just like adversaries in the blogosphere, right?

At this time of year, I dust off my list of changes which I feel will "fix" an un-broken game. Touching up the Perfectly Logical and Symmetrical Baseball League up a bit, I came up with a 9th Item.

  2. Thanks, E., for your support. I launch my campaign to become Baseball Commish immediately after the World Series. May I list you as an endorsement?

  3. Such is the close relationship between Tony La Russa and Jim Leyland, that there was no 1st inning dispute about suspected pine tar on Kenny Rogers' pitching hand. To me it looked just like what we used to call "Tough Skin" something I wish now I had used when I was pitching in High School. Shoulda-coulda-woulda.....

  4. My wife had an office mate when she worked at the IRS in DC years ago that is a baseball fanatic, in a good way. We visited him and her other co-workers not too awful long after she and I were married and he and I struck up a friendship with him taking me to many Oriole games in Baltimore on other visits. Making what could be a long story short the only time I have ever heard him cuss is when he would get in a discussion on you plank #1 and #6. There is a bar he and I have gone to after a game where the "discussions" take on the air of a gangland fight. Had some good times being involved in those debates. Now looking forward to the spring trip to Washington and going back to Baltimore.
