One candidate for the American Presidency foresaw all of this.

As the national and congressional debate over Bush's un-provoked, unnecessary, largely unilateral invasion and unplanned occupation of Iraq (UULUIUOI) reached a crescendo, the then Illinois State Senator Barak Obama delivered this speech on 26-Oct-02 in Chicago:
. . . I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the middle east, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
America is in dire need of competent media and leadership.

  1. Alvaro de Soto, who stepped down last month as UN Middle East envoy, cites facts as to how American support for Israel has hindered international efforts to broker a peace deal in the Middle East. Read this article for details. De Sota quotes an unnamed US official as saying earlier this year:

I like this violence ... It means that other Palestinians are resisting Hamas.

Irony of irony: Gaza is now Hamastan.

  2. Clearly this is the chance for a reformed Paris to take up the issue of Middle East peace and with her clear intelligence, multiple talents, and social skills she can swept through and bring a new day to that troubled region. On a dark note, she couldn't screw up things any worse that Lil' Bush, Lil' Condi, and Lil' Cheney.

  3. The destruction of the al-Askariya Shrine in Samarra had wide implications both within and outside Iraq. There was plenty of blame to go around, such as as here, here, here, here and here. Unfortunately all of it was directed against us and our puppet government installed in Baghdead.

  4. Excellent information on your blog. I've faved it along with Tom Cat's. I don't even want to read MSM anymore. It's nice to have all the good stuff in a couple of places.

  5. Thank You, Marva. :-)

    On Paris, ptuifffffphyyt!! ;-)

On the mosque, wasn't it an inside job, perpetrated by the Iraqi troops that were supposed to be guarding it?

On Gaza, Hamas has won. Bush had a great chance to foster peace when the Hamas and Fatah first formed the unity government, but our ChickenHawk-in Chief refused to negotiate.

On Iran arming the Taliban, the Afghan government debunked that as another Bush lie.

On Barack, he was very far sighted. At the time, I agreed with him.

  6. The real question is not whether Hilton should be in or out of jail but why President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are not in jail. To those caught up in the Hilton drama, I say, get a life. And to Hilton, I say, get a driver.

  8. It is my understanding that Paris Hilton has plans to meet with Henry Kissinger following her sojourn in the county lock-up. It seems God told her that her future is in global politics, specifically peace in our times. As reported by all of the news outlets Paris struck up a personal conversation with God moments after the second incarceration. HE was so impressed he tapped her as Middle-East Envoy, at least in spirit. The latter was reported by FOX NEWS, lately supporters of the Bush Gang but now somewhat disenchanted because God isn't getting enough play.

  9. Frank: Astute observation!

As evidence you could go on to cite than in a single year (along with his other accomplishments) George Bush has lost two proxy wars on Isreal's borders.

  10. Israel's attack on Nasrallah's Hezbollah was a proxy war. This Hamas-Fatah combat is nothing more than a riot in Israel's open-air prison. The wardens are looking on with poorly-disguised satisfaction.

  12. That "Possible War" graph is incredibly frightening. Although, the "US supporting countries" portion is almost funny.
