When George Bush 'ascended' into office, he offered Aerial Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas a dramatically new solution for Palestine. Now that his solution is finally being implemented, he doesn't want anyone to derail it. Anything that takes Iraq off the front pages is something Bush wants to prolong.
Yup, just a mere week or two ago, I would have thought that you are becoming delusional and hysterical. Needless to say, but I say it anyway, not any more.
You have to give to Dubya, though, his foreign and domestic policies are merging into one easy concept - Winner Take All.
Doesn't "plan" require some sort of thought? Not sure the Prevaricator's capable. BTW, thanks for the Bush countdown clock, vigilante. which I posted on my sidebar. Gives me hop.
Hi Pekka. How are you? Yeah, I got called a delusional, hysterical conspiracy theorist when I raged against Bush's "election" to "president" (both in 2000 and 2004), his military action against Iraq, his anti-environment and anti-life policies, and the secrecy of the press. Lately, people stopped laughing. Hmmm...
Ask any liberal Texan how Rove manipualted the gubenatorial election through slandering Gov. Ann Richards. Yup! Prevaricator-In-Chief with his Prevaricating cabinet. Meanwhile, people are dying. Damn straight, vigilante, Bush will do anything to keep Iraq (and Iran and Syria and...) off the front page.
However, reporters these days are little more than spin stenographers: I'm not sure keeping Iraq off the front page is too difficult, given the media is predominantly owned by five multnational conglomerates which contribute large sums of money to the Lil Emperor.
It's discouraging, but we must keep making our voices heard. I think Bloggers are bringing these issues to the public's attention.
Stella, who said Prevarication isn't a plan? As a matter of fact, I think that sums up Bush's 2001-to-date Middle Eastern policy: Planned Prevarication.
It has been my impression that every time Ariel Sharon (and perhaps others) have agreed to a cease fire with the Palestinians, they have immediately undertaken to enlarge and increase the size and number of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. At the same time, they have continued construction of the monster defensive wall between the two peoples.
Am I wrong about this? If not, that certainly explains for me the hatred of Israel's neighbors toward Israel.
Further, hearing Condaleeza Rice demand that there can be no talk of truce unless and until Hezbollah surrenders its arms does not even begin to define for me the meaning and philosophy of diplomacy, especially with the United States encouraging the current hostilities in order to degrade the entire country of Lebanon and the spirit of its people.
If anyone has a different (or even better) conception of the situation, let me know.
Good one (as usual), vigilante: "Planned Prevarication." You're absolutely right. Check out ultra-right-wing Project for a New American Century started in 1997. The entire Dubya & Co. are involved with PNAC, which is striving to take over the entire Middle East.
The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who loves his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.
Reverend G R Gleig, survived the First Anglo-Afghan War to write in 1843:
...a war begun for no wise purpose, carried on with a strange mixture of rashness and timidity, brought to a close after suffering and disaster, without much glory attached either to the government which directed, or the great body of troops which waged it. Not one benefit, political or military, has Britain acquired with this war. Our eventual evacuation of the country resembled the retreat of an army defeated.
