Senator Chris Dodd Wants to Un-Redact the Constitution

Showdown on the FISA Bill

He's making his stand today in a one-man filibuster. He needs help!
The latest word from the Dodd camp regarding what will happen on the FISA Bill is that today, Dodd will take the floor and not yield.

He can take "questions" from other senators during the filibuster, which can be no more than 20 minutes. We understand that Kennedy and Feingold so far have agreed to do this.

They're asking for people to contact their Senators. Dodd is going to have plenty of time to read, so there's time for you to drop a couple of dimes and make the calls. Click below and join the Dodd Squad!

  3. I was not able to get hooked up via phone, either. Busy Busy Busy.

But I used the link on the right-hand column of this website to contact my Senators (Feinstein and Boxer) via email:

    FYI, I wrote:

I'm writing to find out if the Senator will be joining Chris Dodd in opposition to legislation that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies. Please pass my request to the Senator that she reconsider this position and instead stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law alongside Chris Dodd.

It feels good to be a member of the Dodd Squad.

  4. When some one violates the Constitution and does so willfully, they should not receive immunity, be forgiven, or be given a pass. They should go to jail. All that should being discussed is who goes to jail. IMO, it's the usual suspects.

  5. Barack Obama's Office released this statement today:

Senator Obama unequivocally opposes giving retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies and has cosponsored Senator Dodd's efforts to remove that provision from the FISA bill. Granting such immunity undermines the constitutional protections Americans trust the Congress to protect. Senator Obama supports a filibuster of this bill, and strongly urges others to do the same. It's not clear whether he can return for the vote, but under the Senate rules, the side trying to end a filibuster must produce 60 votes to cut off debate. Whether he is present for the vote for not, Senator Obama will not be among those voting to end the filibuster.

  6. From Senator Dodd's Office:

Majority Leader Harry Reid just pulled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act from the floor of the Senate, only moments ago.

    What does this mean?

Well, first, it will come back up again in January after the recess. We'll continue the fight against ANY bill that includes retroactive immunity.

As Chris Dodd just said on the floor, "If it's not [stripped], I'll be back here engaging in this very same effort."

Second, this is what leadership that delivers results look like. It's been a while, but you saw it on display all day on the floor of the Senate.

A leader who stands on principle. And a leader who can turn that principle into results.

Finally, this is evidence of what grassroots advocacy along with real leadership can accomplish.

We'll keep up the fight in the White House, and I'm sure you'll be there right by Chris Dodd's side the entire way.

We'll have updates all night at ChrisDodd.com if you want to drop by and share your thoughts or send a message to Senator Dodd.

    They can hear us now,

    Tim Tagaris
Proud to work for Chris Dodd for President

P.S. I am sure Senator Dodd will want to thank you as well, so keep an eye out in your email box tomorrow.

  8. It feels good to have joined the Dodd Squad. Every noticeable loose thread of Bushacism must be tugged at. We can never know which thread will lead to a string, nor which string will lead to the entrails, nor which entrails will lead to the rotten guts and criminal brain of this monster. The scent of blood is pervasive and will lead us to the red meat. Let the feeding frenzy become a full-spectrum pursuit. No stone must remain unturned nor undisturbed. The world can't wait.
