Stormin' Norman Goldman Takes It to the MSM!

And so should we!
I think Ed Schultz has taken some huge steps away from being the left-wing equivalent of the Rush Limbaugh talk-show hosting model. Big Eddie does a fun drive-time show. He's better than ever. So I'm not knocking him at all.

But when he has Norman Goldman substituting for him, his show goes up a notch. When I caught Now-Man's opening salvo on Thursday morning, I just knew I had to try and capture it.

Here is the short segmentI have in mind. I have said before that Barack Obama's biggest, most potent adversary is not John McCain. It's the multitudes of talking heads funded by the corporats which presents stenography on the main stream media in stead of journalism. Goldman asks,
Why it is that Barack Obama is being decreed and defined by all these unelected, unappointed, media self-important, arrogant snobs, elitist inside-the-beltway, who all go the same cocktail parties, all smooze with each other, all go to the same fancy restaurants, who all have their cars parked by their valets - why have they all decreed, described and defined Barack Obama?
Unopposed, they will succeed in their endeavors to re-define Obama and render him as an under-achieving, humorless, elitist and a loser instead of a closer.

Not only that. But in view of the fact that McCain is such a joke, These MSM guys seem to be struggling with the fact that Obama is no joke. They want Barack Obama to be like Chris Rock! They want politicians to be entertainers!
What is it with the media, that they must have the president as comedy material?
Goldman thinks the talking heads are trying to play catch up with Jon Stewart and Steve Colbert.
Let me give you newsflash, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, Fox News - I gotta newsflash for you:

Our political system does not exist for your entertainment. These people are not here to entertain yeeeewwww! They're not here to give yeeeeewwwww fodder for your laughter. They are here to give us health care. To get us the hell out of Iraq. They're here to secure loose nuclear material so that al Qaeda doesn't get a dirty bomb and blow us all to kingdom come. They are here to pave our roads, to make taxes fair, to root out waste, fraud and abuse from government; to provide health care for little ol' ladies and little ol' men; to give us prescription drugs that don't kill us. That's what they're here for. It's called solving problems. They're here to solve problems. And these problems are very serious. Is there any comedy material in there you would like to work with?

This ain't a side show for your little bit of amusement. I don't care if some big fat bozo on teevee wonders why Barack Obama can't get over Barack Obama.

It ain't on the agenda, Pal.
Norman Goldman seems to be channeling Andrew Shepherd.

We, the people, have to find ways to reiterate Goldman's news flash to the main stream media:
Get over it.
John McCain's 15 minutes are up.
Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States.

  1. I never heard of Goldman before. I feel so ignorant :-D

The MSM isn't really a reliable news source. They're very gossipy and are starting to remind of that TMZ show on Fox.

The blogosphere is where I get my info.

  2. I listen to the Ed Schulz show every week day. Schulz is great, but Norman-Goldman is very good too. He even does impressions.

  3. A Nexus search reveals a contrast the amount of space given to the Jesse Jackson "nuts" controversy (50 major U.S. dailies published a total of 126 articles), as opposed to McCain's "Social Security is Disgrace" blunder (17 major metropolitan newspapers + 20 articles and columns).

    Same week, different coverage.

Eric Boehlert, Media Matters for America concludes,

It seems the only reasons the Jackson story got so much attention was that it was easy to cover (i.e., it required no real reporting), it included a juicy off-color quote, it did not involve any sort of public policy issue, and Matt Drudge said it was important.

Note that the exact opposite requirements were needed to address the McCain story: Some actual reporting had to be undertaken, the topic at hand was Social Security, no blue language was involved....

    In short, analysis!

    Alternet.

  4. soros' proxy, Analysis!! You are totaly correct. God forbid the MSM actually spend even one minute analyzing and reporting on the real issues, let alone the positions of the candidates.

Anonymiss, your TMZ comparison is also correct. The Main stream media has reduced public discourse to the level of Jamie Lynnn Spears pregnancy. Except that Spears got paid two million dollars for a picture of her baby.

It's damned tough for the average American to make an informed decision, when the media prefers to withhold any real information and replace it with Hollywood Tonight gossip.

It almost feels like the MSM wants to dumb down the voting public.

  5. I have to agree with the majority here. I think MSM is a lot like TMZ. They are fun shows but little more than a lot of silly gossip, which, I admit, can be fun sometimes. As to Schultz and Goldman I have never heard of them, but since I respect Vigil's opinion I will have to listen...at least once.

  6. Haven't had a chance to listen to Ed Schultz lately, but he is wonderful. Thanks for the Norman Goldman tip. I, too, haven't heard of him, anonymiss. Let's not feel ignorant. Knowing one's ignorance leads to wisdom.

  7. Hmm, I have to say something about MSM's audience here. At an election night grief party (my local candidate lost) I met an older man who was saying how much he liked Clinton. I asked him, "Even after all that racial stuff he spit out at Obama?" and I told him that nobody's perfect but he's lost my admiration for now. I asked him if he really wanted that chaos back in the White House and he said it was "fun." I told him I'm more than happy to see a government full of nerdy, boring folks who just know how to run government. He thought I was a quack. So politicians ARE entertainment to people, as well as the press...I ask America, just keep the gossip to the celebrities. That's what they are there for (and as a royal alternative).
