It was murder.
ReplyDeleteThere is no other word for it.
"Murder" doesn't do it for me: not strong enough word....
ReplyDeleteSlaughter? The day after this happened Jessie Jackson had already been scheduled to speak at the U of Houston. The school was concerned that he would come in with his fiery rhetoric and start a riot. Instead, he delivered a very crowd calming talk - probably the most sensible I've heard him give.
ReplyDeleteI've always felt Kent State, besides being a criminal act, was the end of the protest movement. The cold reality was that our government had guns and wouldn't hesitate to use them on innocent citizens.
Not for me, Tennessee. The movement ended when Dr. King and Senator Kennedy were assassinated in 1968. That's when I decided America was a country that wasn't worth saving. Politically, I went AWOL and got into tennis and sailing. I didn't wake up until Paul Tsongas' primary campaign in 1992. At the time, Kent State rolled over me, like, "Same ol', Same ol'". I'm not proud to admit to my dereliction....
ReplyDelete"Slaughter" is descriptive of Kent State. Also, "Massacre".

ReplyDeleteThat's when I decided America was a country that wasn't worth saving.
ReplyDeleteThat's curious because in this moment of time I feel it is worth saving but I don't believe it can be.
