MIA

My gigantic, intolerable, nightmarish 3-day Internet outage is finally over. I feel like I was suspended like Manny Ramirez and Michael Vick by Al Gore, the Founder of the 'Net. Talk about dropping the A-bomb on Orangeburg! WTF did I do? Even more important, what have I missed?

  1. Vig, you missed Joe Biden's appallingly ill-advised statements over the weekend about Russia:

"The reality is, the Russians are where they are. They have a shrinking population base, they have a withering economy, they have a banking sector and structure that is not likely to be able to withstand the next 15 years, they're in a situation where the world is changing before them and they're clinging to something in the past that is not sustainable."

    As one Russian newspaper reported:

"Joe Biden unexpectedly returned to the rhetoric of the previous Bush administration."

Yet Obama's principal rationale for choosing Biden was that the former senator's foreign policy expertise would make up for his own lack of diplomatic experience. This can't be what the president had in mind.

  2. Em, That's why I was so adamant in consistently blogging for General Clark's selection as VPOTUS, especially here and here, for example! My case was that Obama needed a vice president who could help him govern more than help him get elected in the 2008 field of losers. I claim vindication, waiving what future historians and biographers discover decades from now about Obama's inner circle.

  3. The trouble in this case is that Biden is right. Several projection of population I have seen have Russia a majority Muslim country by 2050.

Before Putin exchanged his government job he was pushing some sort of baby birthing rally to get young Russians to have more children.

  4. You are right Beach. The vice president makes no bones about his outspokenness and I respect him for that. What is wrong with telling the truth?

I have never agreed that Wesley Clark would have been a suitable VP. He was not even considered as it turns out.

  5. Biden is perilously close to Palin territory. "We've got to keep spending to avoid bankruptcy." And just this week, he said that the stimulus package was supposed to be a "jolt", only to say two days later that it was never intended to be a "jolt". Clark and, yes, a dozen other candidates would have been FAR better.

  6. On Biden: Even a 1st place team doesn't talk smack about a last place team unless it's in the locker room behind locked doors. If it gets out to the press, it'll just put some fire in the bellies of the door mat team, and spark an upset.

  7. The reason why Mike likes Biden is because Mike is like Biden.

  8. Compare Biden's careless truth-telling about the new Russians to Rumsfeld's running his mouth about "old Europe". I don't like the new Russians and I was more than okay with the old Euros who, after all, opposed Bush's aggression in Iraq. But, weren't both unnecessary comments equally deleterious to the conduct of American foreign policy?
