I couldn't agree more with this post, Vig. I think it's THE most important issue at stake tomorrow - ACCOUNTABILITY. The Founding Fathers designed this country with a system of checks-and-balances - something we have not seen in some time now. The executive branch has run amok - it's time for some oversight.
The Alchemy Blog said... I agree with your premise that the Republican Party has lost its conservatism. I would argue that it will be the 30-odd Democrats that will be entering Congress that will add conservatisim to Congress not the Republicans as they are conservative Democrats -fiscal reponsible, pro-life, etc. "Pelosiphobia" has nothing to do with that other than she will have a rude awakening when the new Democrats start in Congress this January.
I hope Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker, is every bit the nightmare Bush and his inbreed bunch wants his base to believe. Someone has to rein that spoiled brat in.
I predict this election will end in fraud and confusion. It has been obvious that it has been driven , mostly by money and brainwashing disinformation. The American system is not as it claims a Democracy , or if it is , it has become a democracy of corporations that perhaps fight over the spoils of profit they extract from the hide of the American people.
BBC is reporting, failing voting machines, threatening calls of being arrested if you turn up to vote in Virginia, missing absentee votes, robocalls, false calls saying the voting venue has been changed.
Skip, I have a quotation in ANTI-TECHNOLOGY that I think it would be useful for you to investigate, and interesting for the rest of us who have to read your stuff (day in and day out).
Funny Messenger , it seems to be the truth also, that famous quote. I think the originator of the quote was someone named Emma Gold ? I think . It`s claimed we have a republic, not a Democracy , but I don`t see where even that is really true at all.
We are so close to an out and out police state now that maybe just a little twitch could bring it on. How about a war.?
There is a lot of war gaming going on with Iran presently, and if that unfortunate thing should occur , that may be the thing that pushes us into an outright police state.
Will the Generals act to try and stop that idea.?
This next one will be from airplanes and subs. Nukes. If we are really unlucky we may find out in the next two years, and I am guessing probably very soon, days or weeks or months.
Bush with his religious nut agenda , and also certain of our allies namely Israel are pushing for a Iran knock out blow of nuke nature. A terrible mistake , but Bush and his group are expert at the art of mistake. The Iranians have missiles with a range of 2400 miles, that carry cluster or multiple warheads. They also have lots of Plutonium, the most deadly toxic substance on Earth. Every one knows it is a mistake to try to out crazy the Iranians. Ha.
I think we should stay out of the fight if the two go to blows , but this group of course will side with Israel to who knows what consequence.?
Don`t believe it about the so called alienation of the neo-cons.
They love Bush and want to play him at least one more time. In fact that is the big one they want now more than they wanted Iraq even.
Destroying Iran is the Prize they covet and Bush and his bunch of religious cranks are made to order for this task.
If it happens expect immediate $200 dollar a barrel oil , then the collapse of the world economy, and mass starvation.
Iowa produces enough food to support one fifth of the worlds pop.
Without that oil hundreds of millions and perhaps billions could starve in the ensuing chaos of a war that would probably spread down into S. Asia. We then will be a small frog in a lake of shit for a while.
The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who loves his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.
Reverend G R Gleig, survived the First Anglo-Afghan War to write in 1843:
...a war begun for no wise purpose, carried on with a strange mixture of rashness and timidity, brought to a close after suffering and disaster, without much glory attached either to the government which directed, or the great body of troops which waged it. Not one benefit, political or military, has Britain acquired with this war. Our eventual evacuation of the country resembled the retreat of an army defeated.
