John McCain Is Not 'My Friend'

Maybe because his sense of timing is off.

Nothing is more tiresome than hearing this superannuated candidate address all of us - individually - in his audience as 'my friend'. It's presumptuous. It comes across as grasping. He may be wanting to be my friend, but it's not a reciprocated feeling. I don't want to be friends with him. I don't want to have a beer with him. Not even a frosty-cold Corona on a hot & dusty afternoon.

McCain's running for president eight years after it was his year to run. In 2000, he was fit for higher office. He was still then a maverick. I actually voted for him in the California primary. (It was the first opportunity I had to vote against George Bush.) But the aging process has weakened his grasp on everything. It shows in his incredible gaffs. It shows in his pandering make-overs into Bush III.

I understand why he's running.
  • He's always been ambitious to be a president or a presidential nominee.
  • He's the best - or the least objectionable - of the depleted and discredited stock from which the GOP has to draw upon.
There's nothing wrong with ambition nor bidding or bluffing with the cards you're holding. But I don't see that Republican stock improving much in the coming years. The only real authentic change(ling) figure on the horizon for 2012 is Sara Barracuda.
Before the laughter drowns me out, let me say that timing is everything in politics. Just as 2008 was too late for McCain and passably okay for both Barrack and Hillary, it's much too early for Palin. She has much to learn. But she's a quick study. I'm just saying that, assuming she doesn't thoroughly disgrace and discredit herself this year, the girl has a future.

I'm not saying I'm betting on her. I'm just sayin'...

  1. MILF in 2012? I don't think so!

  2. What was the meaning at McC's crack at Tom Brokaw? About not wanting Brokaw as Sec of Treasury? What clues was Brokaw giving off that he wanted any part of a McCain administration?

  3. Sarah Palin is not a good person. She is a bad person. She is against everything that is science and nature. In addition she is a religious nut. Under no circumstances should be given any consideration in 2012, but she will no doubt be running at the insistence and with the assistance of the GOP.

As to McCain's comment with regard to Brokaw I suspect it was little more than a weak attempt at humor.

  4. With the continued dumbing down of America, I could see Gov. Palin becoming a candidate in 2012. It would, at least in part, be reward for playing attack dog for Sen. McCain in 2008.

  6. Vig,

Your suspicion that McCain is severely afflicted with the POW syndrome has just been confirmed by McCain no less...

  7. Vig,

    Great point.

I've said it too about Palin (posted it way back when she was first introduced at the Repub Natl Conv), that given a few years and she will be ripe for real national stardom -- White House level, much too raw today but she will get there.

A frightening but real prospect. Ugh!

  8. Everybody, I wasn't suggesting that Barracuda would be qualified in four years to be president. I was proposing that in four years she might aspire to become Republican nominee. That is to say she could do then what she can't do now: pass the GOP embarrassment test as administered George Wills and David Brooks. Of course, that's just 10% of Republicans, maybe less. Lowry and Billy K lust after her now, but that's not sufficient to launch her to the front of the ticket now. Well, at least I hope that if McCain tips over before the election, the GOP agitprop would find another stooge.

  9. Watching the debate was rather painful and very scary for me since McCain's attitude and behavior in the debate along with seeing unfiltered and unspun video of him reminded me so much of my grandmother's decent into dementia.
While my "diagnoses" is unscientific I can't fathom how the country could operate with him at the helm if he does fall victim to what in two short years had my grandmother talking with people who had been dead for decades.

The 25th amendment, governing the removal of a sitting president, is badly written and itself is a nightmare that could plunge the country into an abyss. Throw in Palin, who reminds me more of Hitler everyday, and as I keep saying we could in a dark nightmarish humor sort of way come to look upon the Bush/Cheney years as the good old days.

  10. Excellent post, vigilante. I think your observations are spot on correct.

  11. Palin will be known as the woman who sank McCain's campaign. That will not look good on her resume.

  12. Adynaton, we might recall that Bush bankrupted every corporation he ran, including USA, Inc. If the Killa from Wasilla steps up as preznut in 2012, I really am leaving the country.

Yes, beach Palin, who reminds me more of Hitler everyday. I agree. Bushit was too dumb to be like Hitler. I'm not underestimating Palin's cunning, but she's still dumb as a sack of rocks.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

OK, now that's just damn scary, beach.
