Iraquagmire is an occupation, not a war.

What I have been sayin'...
We have not been fighting a war in Iraq ...

We have been meeting resistance.
What would you do if America was invaded?
raises the veil of anonymity surrounding the Iraqi insurgency by meeting face to face with individuals who are passionately engaged in the struggle, and documenting for the very first time, the sentiments experienced and actions taken by a nation's citizens when their homeland is occupied. Voices that have previously not been heard, male and female, speak candidly about their motivations, hopes and goals, revealing a kaleidoscope of human perspectives. Featuring reflective, yet fervent conversations with active insurgents, MEETING RESISTANCE is the missing puzzle piece in understanding the Iraq war. Directed by Steve Connors and Molly Bingham, this daring, eye-opening film provides unique insight into the personal narratives of people involved in the resistance exploding myth after myth about the war in Iraq and the Iraqis who participate. Through its unprecedented access to these clandestine groups, MEETING RESISTANCE focuses the spotlight on the "other side", clarifying why the violence in Iraq continues to this day and providing a deeper understanding of both the toll of occupation and the human condition of resistance.
Occupations are not won or lost. Occupations are only - eventually - ended.

  2. Another superb post, Vigil.

I deplore the lazy ignorance and brazen arrogance of Busheney and their heinous neocon cohorts whose delusionary visions and complete incompetence are laying waste to America's military, economy, and her standing within the world community with their despicable, unprovoked, and illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation which had not harmed nor attacked us.

The Busheney gang deserves to be tried for their manipulative lies, for their treasonous crimes against the Iraqi people, for their shameful trashing of America's Constitution, and for their reckless abuse of America's military and their families, all of which were done merely to permit Bush to pose as a "War President" in order to maintain Republican control of our country.

Shame on Bush. Shame on Cheney. Shame on the neocon collaborators. And, shame on us. We would resent an invasion and occupation of our country every bit as much as do the Iraqis who speak in this op-ed video and whose impassioned words ring so true.

    The INVASION. Still proceeding.
It was the White house and Congress. CONGRESS Dems and Repubs.
Hillary is just as big a neo-con as Bush.
They are both phony Christians as is Obama and McCain.
They nearly all voted for it.. Obama aside.. because it put new special interest feathers in their caps.
We destroyed them for money and making future money.
    Moralistic garbage aside.

    The Constitution ? Ha ha.
That is a worthless museum piece designed for the 18th. century.. that sort of worked for part of the 20th century.

  4. In order to prolong trhe occupation, Bush and Cheney and McCain are moving the goal posts in Iraq. Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) no longer fits the bill. The WP says now that Iran is the Top Threat To Iraq.

Last week's violence in Basra and Baghdad has convinced the Bush administration that actions by Iran, and not al-Qaeda, are the primary threat inside Iraq, and has sparked a broad reassessment of policy in the region, according to senior U.S. officials.

Evidence of an increase in Iranian weapons, training and direction for the Shiite militias that battled U.S. and Iraqi security forces in those two cities has fixed new U.S. attention on what Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates yesterday called Tehran's "malign" influence, the officials said.

  5. Did I say I think we're toast? Bush is the guy that accomplished the demolition of America. We are the modern equivalent of the Fall of Ancient Rome. No what? Head north or south? I bet Canada will wish they'd thought of the border fence.

  6. Utah, a well meaning ignorant person, looks for easy cartoon villains. Does not understand how the system operates. Iraqainvasion done by both sides to garner up money and keep the system going. Business interests.. not political figure heads.. run the U.S. The invasion = money. Bush is a cypher. As are the other political flunkies. Its the system.

  7. This was an interesting piece but I am still not convinced. The fact is it just doesn't matter. Whether or not we are occupying the country or fighting a war in that country we just don't belong there. American men and women were committed to an illegal action that the American people should not have tolerated. Then again, the Bush Gang had us all scared, making a connection to 9/11 and an evil dictator who had weapons of mass destruction all aimed at the United States. They were all lies, every one of them. The war was to guarantee that Bush would be re-elected as would his right wing cronies and their left wing associates. As Skip has long maintained the war was also about money, lots and lots of it, inevitably ending up in the corporate pockets of the neo-con architects and their allies. Our government is corrupt and cruel. The end of Bush's reign cannot come soon enough. Only then can we attempt a new beginning.

  8. I want to say, "I can't take any more," until I realize all the people suffering around the world as a direct result of their insolent, overbearing self-absorbed attitudes.

War's always been about money. That's hardly an innovative insight. I love madmike's apt comment that this administration is "corrupt and cruel." But I wonder what's coming down the road. Food and clean water are becoming unattainable thanks to the "haves," and their number is legion.

What's that old saw about living in interesting times? Here we are.

  9. One more time, Mike. There's war going on in Afghanistan and pacification going on in Iraq. Despite war, Kabul still "not Baghdad". There are no front lines in Iraq.

  10. There were no front lines in Vietnam Vigil. Was that not a war? Before you answer keep in mind that 58,000 American lives were lost during that terrible time. There are no front lines in Afghanistan and yet you say it is a war. I don't see the distinction.
